General
precautions to get the best sound and service from your instrument.
1. Keep the harmonium in a cool and dry place free of insects. Kept it in a
clean place free of dust. Keep the Outer bellows covered for saving them from
rat biting
2. Play your Harmonium regularly so all the parts move freely. Leaving a
Harmonium for a month or two without playing it is similar in effect to leaving
a car for the same period and starting it up. Nothing will work well for a
while.
3. Never expose the harmonium to direct sunlight. Don’t Leave it in a hot car in
the sun. This might damage the exterior paint. Please note that Extremes of
damp, dryness, cold or heat are just as bad for your Harmonium as they are for
you...
4. Do not leave the air inside while closing the harmonium bellows. Always press
a few keys while closing a bellow so as to remove all the air from the inner
bellows otherwise this would cause leakage in the harmonium. This precaution is
more important in case of a portable harmonium.
5 Do not pump the bellows really hard. It will develop so much pressure in the
system that something breaks and starts to leak air. A player can feel just how
much pressure to use. A child, or another person may not have this "feel" for
the instrument
FIXING THE PROBLEMS USUALLY FACED IN A HARMONIUM
Keys sticking in a harmonium
There is a wooden bar that runs over the top of your keys with a screw at each
end of it. Unscrew and remove this bar. ( See Picture 1)
Press the sticky keys to see what's happening
If keys are sticking because they are interfering with each other, remove a key
and file a small amount off the side of the key if it is scraping against the
key next to it. Replace the key and try it out to see if the key still sticks.
Do this again if the key still scrapes against it’s neighbor key. File in small
amounts at a time, trying the key after each filing.(See Picture 2)

If you find the keys still sticking in a regular model harmonium, try to fix the
nails on the back of the keyboard which help the keys in moving straight or try
to fix the nails under the keys. (See Picture-3). Be careful if you have a
Harmonium with coupler function as the keys must be re-installed according to
the mechanism of coupler.

There may be a key (or a number of keys) sticking down at the front of you
Harmonium. This is caused by the wooden front piece that runs across the
Harmonium trapping the keys at the bottom of their travel when you press them.
Generally removing the two screws that secure the front of the Harmonium and
putting a washer or two on the screws inside will cure this problem as you
increase the distance between the front wooden part and the keys.
Harmonium has a buzz in one of the reeds
1. In some cases, it is just a piece of wood dust that gets stuck in the reed
that will come out on its own with a little bit of hard pumping. (Please
note that unnecessary hard pumping of bellows may sometime cause the reed to go
out of tune). Sometimes,
buzzing of reeds may also be caused due to loose reed. Than Open the harmonium
and identify the reed and tighten the screws holding it.
2. If you still have the problem, take the L shaped tool; enter it into the
reeds tongue for checking the buzz in the reed. You can check the buzz in the
reed by clicking the reed (See Picture 4) & hearing the tongue touching the side
walls of the reed.. If this happens, apply procedures shown on Picture 5 and 6
and again repeat the step from Picture-4. The buzzing sound should now be over.

PLEASE
NOTE: A Reed Tongue is a very Delicate Piece of Metal. Please handle it very
softly. Rough handling or harder pressing may damage the reed permanently. At
any instance while following the given method above, if it happens to you that
you will not do the right troubleshooting then please

personally for any further help. We will provide you our best.
